YEAR 3 (CLASSES 9 & 10) - 2020/21

As part of our Ancient Greece topic, we looked at some ancient amazing artefacts. We predicted what we thought the objects might look like or be used for, before looking at each of the objects closely. We used descriptive words to describe the objects to our friends before thinking about what they might have been used for and what we can learn about the Ancient Greeks from them. Can you guess what artefacts we looked at?

This week, we were very lucky to have a Zumba coach come in for our PE lesson. We learnt new dances and exercises to keep us fit and healthy! We had so much fun and especially loved playing games to the beat of the music.

This week, Year 3 have been enjoying some quiet reading time using our school library. We each chose a book, found a cosy spot and read a new book. We loved the calm, peaceful space and being surrounded by books!

Glorious Greek Cuisine!

As part of our Ancient Greece topic, we have been learning different facts about modern day Greece. We created some wonderful persuasive adverts to book a relaxing holiday to Greece before sampling some of Greece’s traditional delights! We tried olives, feta cheese, honey, taramasalata and falafel. Can you tell by our faces what we thought?

Terrific Timelines!

This week in Year 3, we have been learning all about the Ancient Greeks! We spent time looking at why the Ancient Greeks are important, and looking at things we still do and use because of them. We then discussed the key events that happened in Ancient Greece before ordering them on a timeline.

Terrific Tennis!

This week, we have started our new PE topic – tennis! We enjoyed our PE lesson outside where we practiced hitting the ball with our racket before hitting the ball to our partners.

Funky Easter Cards!

This week, we have been making our own Easter cards. We thought about what a traditional Easter card looks like before thinking outside the box to make these funky, bright Easter Cards! We had so much fun creating the patterns on the rabbit before thinking carefully about our placement of the coloured card.

Super Setting Descriptions!

In English, we have been working hard to write a setting description. Linked to our class novel, ‘The Great Kapok Tree’, we used amazing vocabulary to describe what it would be like to walk through an exotic, tropical rainforest!

Lets Get Crafty!

We are working towards using different materials to create a piece of art work that is all about us. This week, we cut first initial out of card and used our knotting techniques to thread wool around the outside to create a colourful pattern. We chose our favourite colours to reflect our personalities and cannot wait to show you the finished piece of art work!

Mother’s Day Crafts!

We had fun making cards for our loved ones at home to celebrate Mother’s Day. It was quite tricky and we spent time practicing our cutting skills before making 3D flowers out of paper and card. We assembled our cards and are so pleased with the finished result!

Safe Equipment!

At the start of the year, we looked at how we can play safely during break times and lunchtimes. We learnt how to use the equipment correctly as well as lots of team games we can play with each other too!

Respectful Class Charters!

During the first few weeks of Year 3, we have been looking at our rights as part of being a Rights Respecting School! We spent time learning about what our rights are in the classroom and built a class charter together. On our class charter, we have promised different things we can do to respect everyone’s rights. We loved creating our own t-shirts and balloons and decorating them with a word to show how we are going to act in Year 3!

Hunter Gatherers!

Our topic this term in Year 3 is The Stone Age to the Iron Age! We have been learning all about how people in the Stone Age lived and became hunter-gatherers for the afternoon! We went into the garden and had to think about how people in prehistoric Britain would have hunted and gathered their food. We searched the garden for different animals, nuts and berries.

Year 3 - 2019/20

Rocks Rock!

This term we have been learning about rocks in Science. As we have been looking at rocks and their different layers and formation, we took part in an experiment to really understand this! We created chocolate rocks from layers of milk and white chocolate. It was messy but great doing this experiment!

Dance Festival Fun

We went on a trip to Silksworth Sports Centre to take part in a dance festival. It was so much fun as we learnt a street dance routine and danced to music!

Super Stone Age Homework

This half term, our topic is the Stone Age. We have brought some amazing and wonderfully creative pieces of homework into school. We are really enjoying learning about this topic both inside and outside of school. Have a look at some of our work below!

Hunter Gatherers

We transformed into Stone Age people and went on a scavenger hunt in the garden. We discovered lots of different plants, berries and foods. It was so much fun seeing how the Stone Age people had to hunt to survive and find their food in the wild.

Quick Cricket

This term in Year 3, we have had coaching sessions in cricket. We have been learning how to correctly throw and catch balls and how to hold a cricket bat. We will be working on these techniques over the next few weeks and then we will see how we can use these in cricket games. We loved working as a team to see how many points we could get!

 Respectful Class Charters!

During the first few weeks of Year 3, we have been looking at our rights as part of being a Rights Respecting School! We spent time learning about what our rights are in the classroom and composed a class charter together. On our class charter, we have promised different things we can do to respect everyone’s rights. We loved creating our own hand prints and decorating them to show how we are all individuals!
