Clean and Green in Barnes Park
This week, we were lucky enough to be invited along to Barnes Park for the West Area Clean and Green Event. We took part in lots of activities about the environment and how we can re-use plastic. Activities included, crafts, singing and building an igloo for a penguin! This was all followed by a picnic lunch in the glorious sunshine.
We also had the chance to enjoy all the fun of the fair where we were spun on waltzers, bounced on trampolines and drove dodgem cars.
A wonderful time was had by all!
This term we have been learning about mountains, and in English we have been reading ‘When the Mountains Roared’. In the story Ruby reluctantly travels to begin a new life in India with her Dad, her Grandma and the baby kangaroo that her Grandma smuggled into the country! We have taken on the role of Ruby and we have written diary telling of our journey. We presented our entries in the style of a scrap book. Here are a few fabulous examples.

Spring 19 Gallery
In art this term we have produced oil pastel pictures of mountain landscapes inspired by the work of Georgia O’Keeffe. We layered colours and then scratched into the layers to add detail to our work.
Visit to the Hindu Temple
In R.E we have been learning about Hinduism. We enjoyed a visit to a Hindu temple where we learned about traditional dress and had the opportunity to try some of the special clothing on. In the classroom we have enjoyed learning about Hindu beliefs, traditions and culture.
The Fireworker’s Daughter
In English, we have produced some lovely pieces of writing around the story of ‘The Fireworker’s Daughter.’ We have written instructions on how to wash an elephant! You never know when yours might get dirty! We have also written character descriptions about the main character, Lila. Take a look at some of the marvellous examples below.
We have participated in many sporting events this term. We have taken part in a fun run, a multi-skills event and a tennis tournament. We have also had the opportunity to take part in weekly swimming lessons.
We have been so successful we may have some future sporting stars here at Highfield!
Centre for Life
In Year 4, we were very excited to visit the Centre for Life to take part in a habitats, food chains and classifications workshop. We placed woodlice in a choice chamber to determine which habitat they prefer. We then used a classification key to identify the species of some very interesting creepy crawlies including dancing stick insect and a baby tarantula called Consuela!
We also had some time to explore other areas of the science centre which we all really enjoyed. The 4D ride was a firm favourite for many of us although Mrs Musk had to close her eyes as she began to feel a little sick! The children represented our school fantastically and were a real credit to Highfield.
