Schemes We Follow

Letters And Sounds

At Highfield we follow the Letters And Sounds Scheme as a foundation to our children's communication skills. Letters and Sounds is a phonics resource published by the Department for Education and Skills in 2007. It aims to build children's speaking and listening skills in their own right as well as to prepare children for learning to read by developing their phonic knowledge and skills. It sets out a detailed and systematic programme for teaching phonic skills for children starting by the age of five, with the aim of them becoming fluent readers by age seven.

Mathletics and Spellodrome

Mathletics and Spellodrome are new additions to the programs we use. They give each student their very own personal learning space. It is filled with target curriculum content, as well as engaging games and rewards.

Each child from Y2 to Y6 is registered and can use these programs at home as well as in school. All they need is their login details, which can be obtained from their class teacher.
